Wilderness First Aid Santa Cruz Island

Wilderness First Aid (WFA) — 16 hours of instruction

Course Cost: $650.00

Includes WFA certification, all course materials, and island accommodations. You will be responsible for your own meals and boat tickets to and from the island. You will stay on the island for the entire course. CPR is not included and can be added for $60.00.

Location: Santa Cruz Island Field Station

Learn basic wilderness medicine in a scenic island setting. This course is useful for individuals and organizations working or traveling in the backcountry who still have reasonable access to medical care through a helicopter or search and rescue team. Certification is valid for two years.

Topics include: Patient Assessment; Critical Care; Vital Signs; Bleeding Control and Shock; Wound Care; Sprains, Strains and Fracture Care; Spinal and Head Injuries; Environmental Emergencies: Heat and Cold; Bites and Stings; Allergic Reactions; Diabetic Emergencies; Cardiac and Respiratory Issues; and more.
